RoosterCV

Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about the tool and structured resumes.

Is RoosterCV free?

Yes. The tool is completely free to use. It is supported by advertising, which is why you may see ads on content pages.

Where is my resume data stored?

You can build a resume anonymously — it stays in your browser and is never uploaded to our servers. If you create an account to save resumes and get matched to roles, those resumes are stored securely on our servers, and you can edit or delete them from your dashboard.

Who can see my resume?

You stay anonymous by default. Employers see only a cloaked profile — skills, experience, region, and a match score — never your name or contact details. Your full resume is shared with an employer only after you accept their invitation.

What is a JSON resume?

A JSON resume is your career information expressed as structured data rather than a formatted document. This makes it easy for software to read accurately while still being renderable for humans.

What is the resume.cv.open protocol?

It is an open, vendor-neutral specification for resume and CV data, including consent and provenance. RoosterCV produces files conforming to version 0.1 of that protocol.

Can I import an existing resume file?

Yes. Use the Import option in the builder to upload an existing PDF or Word (.docx) resume — we extract the text into editable sections for you to review — or import a resume.cv.open JSON file, which is validated against the schema before loading.

How do I create a PDF?

Open the builder, then use the Print / PDF button. Your browser print dialog can save the live preview as a PDF.

Will employers accept a JSON resume?

Adoption is growing, but you should still keep a PDF for traditional applications. The protocol is designed to complement, not replace, existing formats.
